Reinaldo (Rey) Montañez Rodríguez, born on July 31, is a Puerto Rican salsa vocalist and the youngest of 18 siblings, including his older brother Andy Montañez. In 2007, Rey released a solo bolero recording titled "Tres Almas y Un Sentimiento". In October 2010, Rey and pianist and musical director Victor Skerrett co-founded the group Rey Montañez y su Conjunto Akangana with the goal of paying tribute to Andy Montañez and the legacy of composer Roberto Angleró.
The ensemble has produced multiple salsa releases. Their early catalog includes singles such as "El Coco De Rosa" (2020), "Cabellera Blanca" (2021), "Pa' Picar No Pa' Jaltarse" (2021), and "Un Siglo de Amor" (2022). In 2022, they released the single "Encontre Mi Camino", which was expanded into a nine-track full-length album of the same name in 2023. This was followed by the single "La Orquesta Celestial" later that year.
In 2024, the group released the singles "Malas Costumbres" and "Un Jibaro Aficionado". They continued their output with the single "Quién Te Besó" and the album "SIEMPRE CONTENTO" in 2025, followed by the single "De Vuelta Al Barrio" in 2026.
