Ángel Alexis Ríos Valencia, professionally known as Alexis Play, is a Colombian singer, composer, and musician born in Quibdó, Chocó. Growing up near the Atrato River, he was deeply influenced by traditional Chocoano musical folklore alongside the imported rap, reggae, and champeta cassettes that circulated throughout Colombia's Pacific coast in the 1990s. He started experimenting with music and improvisation in 1998, blending hip-hop aesthetics with regional Pacific sounds.
In 2004, Rios Valencia joined the prominent Colombian group ChocQuibTown, collaborating on their early releases. He eventually launched a solo career under the name Alexis Play, focusing on his work as a singer, composer, and producer, while addressing cultural identity and social themes such as anti-racism through his music.
