Antonio Fuentes

Antonio Fuentes Estrada (born May 18, 1907) was a Colombian musician, entrepreneur, and pioneer of the Latin American recording industry. In 1934, he founded Discos Fuentes in Cartagena, Colombia, which became the country's first notable record label. The company, which eventually based its operations in Medellín, is recognized as one of the oldest active record labels in Latin America.

Under Fuentes's leadership, Discos Fuentes was instrumental in capturing, producing, and distributing Afro-rhythm genres, including cumbia, porro, merengue, fandango, salsa, and rock and roll. The label helped launch and develop the early careers of key Colombian artists and composers, such as Guillermo Buitrago, Rafael Escalona, and Julio César Bovea. In addition to his music business ventures, Fuentes was a multi-instrumentalist, photographer, and publicist.
