Jerry Louis Díaz Rivas, professionally known as Jerry Rivas, is a Puerto Rican salsa singer best known as a long-time lead vocalist for the legendary salsa orchestra El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico. Born on August 25, 1955, Rivas was raised in Puerto Rico and developed a highly respected career within the Latin music genre. In the music community, he acquired the nickname "El mono rubio que canta como negro" owing to his distinct vocal style.
Rivas joined El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico in approximately 1977, anchoring a key role in the band's vocal front line. Throughout his decades-long tenure, he has recorded numerous tracks as a lead vocalist, toured internationally, and contributed backing vocals to projects by other Latin music ensembles. His legacy as a foundational figure in Puerto Rican salsa is celebrated alongside his musical family, which includes Gerardo, Bebo, and Gerardo Gabriel.
