Eddy Zervigón

Eddy Zervigón

Eddy Zervigón is a Cuban flautist and bandleader born in Güines, a town located approximately 30 miles southeast of Havana, Cuba. In 1962, Zervigón emigrated from Cuba to the United States, settling in New York City.

Shortly after arriving in New York in 1962, Zervigón joined forces with his brothers, violinist Rudy Zervigón and pianist Kelvin Zervigón, to establish Orquesta Broadway. The ensemble adopted the traditional Cuban charanga format, featuring a lineup of flute, violins, bass, and a rhythm section consisting of conga, timbal, and güiro. Roberto Torres joined the group as its original lead singer. Eddy Zervigón serves as the bandleader and is recognized for performing on a five-keyed wooden instrument known as the "French flute."

Orquesta Broadway went on to become one of the most successful and enduring charanga bands in New York. The group toured extensively internationally, including performances in Africa and Europe. Between 1964 and 2003, the orchestra released 20 albums alongside numerous other recordings, establishing themselves as a cornerstone of the New York Latin music scene.
