
Raúl "Popeye" Villarán Descalzi, born on September 24, 1953, is a Peruvian singer, bassist, and backing vocalist. Born in the neighborhood of Chacaritas in the port city of Callao, Peru, Villarán developed an early interest in music and began learning the guitar at seven years old. Over his career, he became an active figure in the Peruvian tropical music scene, specializing in genres such as son cubano and salsa.
In his personal life, Villarán is married to Janet Pedreschi, and the couple has seven children: Lissete, Melissa, Úrsula, Karina, Ángela, Dulce, and Mateo.
His official discography includes the 2019 album "Soy Amigo de la Rumba," followed by the 2020 single "Se Levantará la Humanidad." In 2022, he released the album "Cinco Décadas de Rumba y Sabor," celebrating his fiftieth anniversary of musical activity.
