The Echo Park Project was founded in 2006 by Carlo Lopez, a Latin percussionist originally from Brooklyn, New York. Based in Southern California, Lopez established the ensemble with the goal of recreating the classic New York City salsa sound of the 1970s. To achieve this, Lopez recruited several experienced West Coast session and performing musicians, including John Belzaguy, Joey de Leon, and Artie Webb.

The group's repertoire features a combination of original compositions and covers of classic 1970s salsa tunes, encompassing genres such as salsa, latin jazz, mambo, and cha cha cha. Over their years of activity, they have established themselves as a key ensemble in the Southern California Latin music scene.

The Echo Park Project has remained active in recording, releasing the album "It's My Turn" in 2021. Their extensive catalog of singles includes "Salsa en el Corazón", "La Botanica", and "Perdóname" (2020); "Salsera" and "Se Traba" (2022); "Yo Soy La Rumba", "Agitando", and "La Madre Rumba" (2023); "Es el Edén" and "Los Hijos de Santa Cecilia" (2024); and "Bombon De Mi Corazón" (2025).
