Orquesta Failde was founded in Matanzas, Cuba, in 2012 by flutist Ethiel Failde, who is a descendant of Miguel Failde, the historical creator of the danzón. The group was established to preserve and continue the legacy of traditional Cuban popular music. Composed largely of young graduates from artistic schools, the orchestra made its official debut on April 14, 2012, at the Taller Internacional de Títeres de Matanzas. Operating in a charanga format with an extended brass section, the ensemble's repertoire spans danzón, son cubano, mambo, chachachá, bolero, timba, and salsa.
The group has earned recognition for its work, including a Latin Grammy nomination. In their recordings, they blend traditional structures with contemporary arrangements to interpret classical Cuban rhythms.
The orchestra's recorded catalog includes a variety of singles and full-length albums. They released the live album "Danzoneando (En vivo desde Matanzas)" in 2023, followed by the album "Caminando piango piango" in 2025. Their other single releases include "Rompiendo la Rutina" (2021), "Joyas Inéditas" (2021), "Aquí Estoy Yo" (2021), "Danzón Para La Espera" (2024), "La Llorona" (2024), "Sonora Matancera Homenaje" (2024), "¿Dónde Estabas Tú?" (2025), "Aquellos Ojos Verdes" (2025), and "Yiri Yiri Bom (Deluxe Version)" (2025). They continue to perform and record in genres such as son cubano, timba, bolero, latin jazz, cha cha cha, and salsa.
