La Maxima 79 is an Italian salsa orchestra formed in Milan in 2010. The group was founded by Fabrizio Zoro, an international salsa DJ, percussionist, and music producer. Zoro established the orchestra with the goal of reviving the "salsa dura" sound popular during the 1970s golden era of New York salsa, creating music specifically tailored for dancers, DJs, and musicians.
Over the years, the orchestra has achieved international recognition with hits such as "Pobrecita", "La Gripe", and "Mi Chula". Their early album releases include "Regresando al Guaguanco" in 2013 and "Joseito". Exploring genres that span salsa, cha-cha-cha, mambo, timba, and latin jazz, the group balances traditional structures with modern production elements.
La Maxima 79 has maintained a highly active recording schedule, releasing albums such as "#Resilienza" in 2019, "Un Nuevo Dia" in 2022, and "X" in 2024. Their catalog of singles features releases like "Mucho Guaguanco" (2021), "Italia Guaguanco'" (2022), "Que Se Prenda" (2024), and "Escucha Este Son Montuno" (2026).
