
José "Cheo" Torres is a salsa singer born in Caguas, Puerto Rico. He began his musical education at the Escuela Libre de Música in his hometown. His early professional steps in music were with the Orquesta Power de Caguas. He later performed as a vocalist alongside singer Maelo Ruiz in the Orquesta de Trombones, a group led by Luty Maldonado, a former trombonist for Roberto Roena.
Torres has released a steady stream of salsa music since 2020, beginning with the single "Muero en Tu Tierra." In 2021, he released the album Ese Dolor de Siempre, alongside the single "Clara Guerrero." This was followed by subsequent singles "Pancho Cartera" and "Migajas de Amor" in 2023, and "Solito y Callao" in 2024.
In 2025, Torres released "Mi Infierno en la Tierra," a single featuring guest vocalist Luisito Carrión. The track was recorded at Rolo Studios in Puerto Rico under the musical direction and arrangement of Carlos García. This was followed by the release of the single "Mi Legado" in 2026.
