Born on May 19, 1967, in Buenaventura, Colombia, Yuri Buenaventura is a salsa singer and composer. He began singing in his youth, drawing early inspiration from classic salsa figures such as Celia Cruz and Héctor Lavoe. He developed his musical career within the active salsa circles of Cali, Colombia, before relocating to France, where he established a significant international presence.
Buenaventura's musical style incorporates elements of classic New York-style salsa, son cubano, and cha cha cha, channeling the traditions of the Fania All Stars. Over his career, he has recorded numerous albums, including Vagabundo (2003) and Salsa Dura (2005). He has also contributed to television and film, notably composing music for the screen, such as the television series Pablo Escobar, el Patrón del Mal, which features a soundtrack album released in 2021.
