Ocho y Media is a French salsa band based in Paris, known for blending traditional salsa and timba with a diverse range of external musical styles, including rock, gnawa, musette, funk, and Balkan ska. The group established themselves as a prominent act in the French music scene, with the music publication Cocazine highlighting them as one of the most active bands in the Parisian salsa, ragga, and ska circuit.
Throughout their career, the band achieved notable recognition in Latin America, particularly in Colombia, where their tracks became hits in the salsa clubs of Cali. This reception helped increase the visibility of European salsa in South America and led to international tours, including performances in Venezuela in 2007 and 2009, and a tour of Colombia in 2008.
Ocho y Media's discography began with the release of their debut album, "Llego La Hora," in 2004, followed by "Sigue!" in 2006. The band continued releasing music in the subsequent decade, issuing the single "El Elefante - EP" in 2013 and the album "El Elefante" in 2014. Following a hiatus from recording, they released the album "Quita Dolor" in 2024.
