José Charlie Maldonado Rodríguez, known artistically as Charlie Maldonado, was born on October 4, 1964, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. His professional musical career began in 1990 when he joined the Orquesta Saljaztet, directed by Bobby Concepción. Over the years, he developed his skills as a backup singer and sonero, performing with several notable salsa ensembles, including Sabor Antillano Orquesta and the orchestra of Osvaldo "Cuchón" Nuñez. In addition to his career in music, Maldonado holds a bachelor's degree in science with a concentration in electronic engineering technology and has worked as an entrepreneur since 1990.
As a solo salsa vocalist, Maldonado has released a consistent flow of singles and album material. He debuted the single "Vida Artificial" in 2018, followed in 2020 by "Se Vive Una Vez" and "Supe Que Me Amabas", and in 2021 by "Te Llamé". In 2022, he issued his solo album, also titled "Vida Artificial", alongside the singles "Donde Están Esos Amigos", "Sentenciada", and "Esto Sabe a Fiesta". His more recent releases include the 2023 singles "Amor Desempleado" and "Señora Rumba", as well as "Me Faltas" in 2024.
