Daniel Amat is a Cuban pianist born in Güira de Melena, a town in Havana, Cuba. He grew up in a musical environment and was heavily influenced by his father, Francisco "Pancho" Amat, a prominent Cuban tres player. Under his father's guidance, he was introduced to traditional Cuban styles such as son, trova, and rumba from an early age.
Amat's musical style incorporates classical music techniques alongside jazz improvisation, drawing inspiration from pianists like Oscar Peterson and Art Tatum. Despite these influences, his work remains rooted in traditional Cuban genres, including changüí, guaguancó, and danzón. In 2002, he released the album "El Piano Que Llevo Dentro," and his early recordings have since been represented in compilations like "Una Parte De Mi."
