The Sarahbanda is a musical ensemble founded by Sarah Willis, a French horn player with the Berlin Philharmonic. The project emerged as an offshoot of Willis's "Mozart y Mambo" trilogy, which combined classical compositions with Cuban rhythms. Inspired by these musical experiments, Willis formed the group to further explore popular Cuban dance genres.
The ensemble features the integration of the French horn, an instrument not typically active in traditional Cuban band music, alongside a group of Cuban musicians. The project focuses on combining classical brass instrumentation with traditional and popular Cuban rhythms.
The group released their self-titled debut album, "Sarahbanda", in 2024, representing their main catalog release.
