Raised in New York City and later based in Tampa, Florida, Martínez has spent over three decades working in the performing and musical arts, earning recognition under the moniker "El Sonero Romántico."
Martínez's musical style spans multiple subgenres of salsa, including salsa romántica, salsa dura, guaracha, and son montuno. He marked his official album debut with "Es Mi Tiempo," a seven-track project that highlighted his vocal range and versatility across different tempos.
