
Gloria Estefan was born Gloria María Milagrosa Fajardo García on September 1, 1957, in Havana, Cuba. Her family immigrated to the United States in 1959. She was raised in Miami, where she later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from the University of Miami. On September 1, 1978, she married musician and producer Emilio Estefan, Jr., with whom she has two children, Nayib and Emily Marie.
Estefan gained international recognition as the lead vocalist of the group Miami Sound Machine. In the 1980s and 1990s, the group achieved significant crossover success with hit singles such as "Conga" and "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You." A five-time Grammy Award winner, Estefan has also been recognized with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Her career has spanned several decades of recording and performing. Her subsequent musical releases include the 2023 single "La Vecina."
