Orquesta La Palabra is a highly influential salsa and timba group led by the Cuban-born pianist, singer, arranger, and bandleader Rodolfo M. Foster, professionally known as "Fito Foster" or "La Palabra." Born in Caimanera, Cuba, Foster is widely recognized as a key pioneer of the "salsa romántica" genre, a style that emerged from adapting romantic ballads into a salsa format, initially termed "balada en salsa." In December 1979, prior to the formation of his signature group, Foster and flautist Jesús "El Niño" Alejandro formed Orquesta Versalles.
Foster later established Orquesta La Palabra in Los Angeles, partnering with executive producer Morrow and vocalists George "Babaloo" Balmaseda and Angelo Pagan to record the album On Fire. The group went on to achieve significant international recognition, building a particularly strong following in Colombia and abroad with signature tracks such as "Rumores" and "El Tun Tun de Tu Corazón."
Orquesta La Palabra has maintained an active recording presence spanning from the mid-1980s through to the 2020s. The group's catalog features numerous releases, including the live single "Dos Gardenias Para Ti (En Vivo)" (2020), "Ya Se Fue" (2021), and the full-length album "Mi Mejor Momento" (2024). Recent productions include the 2025 singles "Ángel Desolado" and "Rumores (Dazed Remix)."
