Carlos Henriquez, born in the Bronx in 1979, is a Puerto Rican jazz double bassist, composer, and bandleader. He began his musical studies on the guitar in junior high school before transitioning to the double bass through Juilliard's Music Advancement Program. He later studied at Juilliard under the Tito Puente scholarship. While still a teenager, Henriquez gained professional experience by performing with salsa legends including Tito Puente and Celia Cruz.
In 1998, Henriquez joined the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Over his extensive tenure with the ensemble, he has frequently bridged the worlds of jazz and Afro-Caribbean music. In November 2014, he played a central role in a collaborative concert series between the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and Panamanian vocalist Rubén Blades, featuring arrangements that integrated salsa and jazz harmonies.
As a leader, Henriquez has continued to release his own projects, including the 2026 album "Monk Con Clave".
