Luis Tovar, also known as "El Pana" Tovar, is a Venezuelan percussionist, bandleader, and Juno Award nominee. Originally from Venezuela, Tovar relocated to Alberta, Canada, where he has spent nearly three decades performing and contributing to the western Canadian music scene. His artistic style is defined by a blend of his Venezuelan and Afro-Caribbean roots with world percussion dynamics.
Throughout his career, Tovar has helped establish several musical projects, including co-founding the world fusion band Cumako and leading the contemporary salsa band Distrito Salsa. As a recording artist, his work includes the 2025 single "Toma Salsa," which combines traditional salsa arrangements with contemporary musical elements.
