Papá Bocó is a Colombian group formed in 2008 by percussionist Santiago Anaya in the city of Pereira. The ensemble was founded primarily by students and graduates of the music education program of the Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira. From its inception, the group focused on the exploration and research of traditional Afro-Colombian musical styles—such as currulao, abozao, and porro—and their integration with broader Afro-descendent genres, including salsa, timba, jazz, and funk.
The group established their sound with early releases, including their debut single "Otra Oportunidad," before releasing the album "Baila Mi Rumba" in 2017. Their repertoire features a blend of traditional Colombian folklore and hard-hitting salsa and timba structures.
Papá Bocó has remained active with a succession of single releases. In 2023, they issued "Aprendí," "La Arrechera de Emiliano," and the collaborative single "Sos Mi Cura" alongside the group La Mambanegra. They continued this trajectory with the release of "Bonito Querer" in 2024 and "América Me Está Llamando" in 2025.
