Adalberto Santiago was born on April 23, 1937, in Barrio Pozas of Ciales, Puerto Rico. He exhibited musical talent early in life, playing guitar by ear and participating in a romantic trio. Inspired by vocalists such as Beny Moré, Chapottin, Pancho Alonso, and Miguelito Cuní, Santiago developed a singing style characterized by relaxed and precise lead vocals. His professional career gained significant momentum in 1966 when he became the lead vocalist for Ray Barretto's Orchestra, performing during the golden era of salsa.
In addition to his lead roles, Santiago was an active studio musician in New York, contributing background vocals (coro) to numerous recordings over several decades. He established his solo recording career in the mid-1970s, releasing "Adalberto" in 1976, "Adalberto Featuring Popeye El Marino" in 1978, and "Feliz Me Siento" in 1979. He maintained his solo output into the 1980s with works including "Adalberto Santiago" (1980), "Calidad" (1982), "Super Apollo 47:50" (1982), "Cosas del Alma" (1983), and "Sex Symbol" (1988).
Santiago continued recording through the subsequent decades, releasing "Hay Algo En Ella" in 1990, "Ahora" in 1993, and "Mas Sabroso" in 2006. His recording career in the catalog spans to the 2019 album "Trayectoria de Clasicos", representing over forty years of active releases.
