
Elvis Crespo Díaz is an American merengue singer and songwriter, born on July 30, 1971, in New York City. Raised between New York and Puerto Rico, he grew up surrounded by various Caribbean rhythms and tropical music. He first gained professional recognition as a performer in the Puerto Rican merengue group Grupo Manía.
In 1998, Crespo launched his solo career with his debut album, "Suavemente." The album became a significant international success, achieving platinum status and featuring the hit title track, which topped the Billboard charts for several weeks. Known for his contributions to the genre of merengue, he has won multiple awards, including both a Grammy and a Latin Grammy Award.
While primary recognized as a key figure in merengue, his musical style also incorporates other tropical genres, including salsa and bachata. His catalog includes several compilation releases later in his career, such as the 2010 album "Mis Favoritas."
