
Demetrios Kastaris is a Greek-American trombonist, percussionist, and bandleader. Raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Kastaris later relocated to Queens, New York, where he developed a deep interest in Afro-Cuban rhythms. Over a career spanning four decades, he has worked to connect Mediterranean musical elements with Caribbean styles. He serves as the director of The Latin Jazz Coalition, a 12-piece ensemble focused on Latin jazz and Afro-Cuban music. The group, known for its focus on open improvisation, has performed at venues such as Flushing Town Hall in New York.
The Latin Jazz Coalition & Demetrios Kastaris released the collaborative album El Griego Rumbero. This project showcases their signature fusion of Mediterranean and Caribbean elements, combining jazz performance with traditional Afro-Cuban rhythmic structures.
