La Liga Habanera is a salsa and timba band originally formed in Havana, Cuba, and now based in Stockholm, Sweden. Founded by Swedish percussionist and composer Max Alton, the ensemble bridges Cuban musical traditions with a European base, consisting of active musicians from both Cuba and Sweden.
The group's sound is characterized by a modern, groovy take on Cuban timba, salsa, and son cubano, incorporating elements of jazz, soul, funk, and rumba. Their style is influenced by classic and contemporary Cuban acts such as Buena Vista Social Club, Los Van Van, Beny Moré, and Havana de Primera, as well as the American funk group Earth, Wind & Fire.
Active in recording between 2013 and 2024, La Liga Habanera has released a steady stream of singles. In 2024, they published several tracks, including "AllĂĄ TĂș" in collaboration with Cuban sonero Raciel Garces, alongside titles like "Quiero Navidad", "Mezcla Perfecta (remastered)", "Mi PilĂłn", and "Vamos PĂĄ La Calle". Their recorded repertoire focuses on timba, son cubano, cha cha cha, and salsa.
