Edwar Montoya Florez, professionally known as La Vara Montoya, is a Colombian trombonist, bombardinist, and composer with over two decades of musical experience. Based in Colombia, his work spans several genres including salsa, cumbia, Latin jazz, reggae, and tropical music, often fronting his project La Vara y la Tromba.
Montoya's sound incorporates traditional tropical elements alongside modern fusions and salsa choke. Between 2024 and 2025, he released a sequence of singles including "Gracias", "A mi Madre", "Errores", "Cumbia Lamento", and "El Lamento de Mi Cumbia".
In 2025, Montoya released the single "El Oficial" alongside the EP "Diferente". This project highlights his approach of crossing traditional salsa arrangements with urban rhythms and Latin jazz influences.
