Rene Alvarez y Su Cuban Combination was founded in London in 2009 by Cuban musician Rene Alvarez Portuondo, who serves as the group's pianist, trombonist, vocalist, and composer. The orchestra focuses on melodic salsa and timba, integrating traditional Cuban rhythms such as danzón, son cubano, changüÃ, and songo with contemporary elements of funk and R&B.
The group made their recorded catalog debut with the single "Ese Soy Yo" in 2015. In 2017, they released the album "Abriendo los Caminos" through Abanico Records, a project coordinated in partnership with Alexio "Papo" Grossi and Fabrizio Zoro. The album highlighted the ensemble's signature style, utilizing intricate arrangements and strong vocal deliveries.
Rene Alvarez y Su Cuban Combination continued to expand their catalog with subsequent single releases. They issued "Buscando un Tambo" in 2020, followed by the single "Son Pa' Caridad" in 2021.
