Orquesta Del Barrio

Orquesta Del Barrio was founded in 1983 in Philadelphia by pianist, vocalist, and composer Carlos Sánchez. The group's name was inspired by its original members, who were all residents of the same neighborhood. In its early years, the orchestra's repertoire primarily consisted of covers of celebrated Puerto Rican acts such as La Sonora Ponceña and Roberto Roena's Apollo Sound.

The ensemble achieved national recognition with the release of their debut album, "Sonido Del Barrio," in 1997 on the Salsabor Music label. They expanded their catalog with the album "El Amanecer" in 2004. Over the following decades, the group released projects including the single "Rumba Buena" and the commemorative album "Orquesta Del Barrio (25 Aniversario)" in 2021, as well as the 2024 single "SOY SONERA." In 2026, they released "30 Aniversario," a nine-track production marking their fourth album and celebrating three decades since their debut recording.

Throughout their career, Orquesta Del Barrio has been a staple of the East Coast salsa scene, performing at prominent venues and nightclubs. The orchestra has twice opened for El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico and was invited three times to showcase their music at Latin Beat magazine's Siempre Salsa Festival in New York City.
