Conjunto Clásico is a New York-based salsa band. Formed in 1979, the group was founded by Raymond Castro and Ramón Rodríguez, who soon brought in vocalist Tito Nieves to complete the lineup. Castro served as the group's executive producer, chorus singer, and percussionist.
The band's musical style is rooted in salsa and son cubano, adhering to a traditional Cuban conjunto format. Their instrumentation typically features three trumpets, conga, bongo, maracas, güiro, bass, piano, the Cuban tres guitar, and vocals. This setup allowed the group to maintain a classic Cuban conjunto sound while appealing to modern salsa audiences in New York and beyond.
The group has remained active across several decades. Their catalog includes early recordings as well as later releases such as the 2006 album "Asi Es Mi Pueblo" and the 2013 compilation "Ray Castro Presenta...20 Super Exitos Del Conjunto Clasico Con Tito Nieves". In 2020, they released the album "Tus Dulce Labios" alongside live compilations including "Tesoros en Vivo, Vol. 1" and "Vol. 2", followed by the single "La Verdad" in 2024.
