Orquesta Salsa 220 is a salsa ensemble founded by the veteran Colombian trombonist Oscar "El Gato" Urueta. Born in Cartagena, Colombia, Urueta started his music career in 1972 and later established the orchestra. Some accounts trace the group's origins to 2013 alongside Michi Boogaloo and Urueta's sons Vladimir, Kriss, and Oscar Jr., while other records mark its official launch in 2016. Drawing musical inspiration from classic salsa brava exponents like Eddie Palmieri's La Perfecta, Dimensión Latina, and the orchestra of Ray Pérez, the group focuses on preserving a traditional, trombone-led sound.
The orchestra first appeared in the catalog with the release of the single "Guaguancó Sabroso" in 2017. They followed with several other single releases, including "Dignidad", "Hachero" in 2021, and "Cómo Te Quiero Yo" in 2022. Their recordings frequently address social themes while maintaining a heavy, danceable tempo.
In 2023, Orquesta Salsa 220 released the album "Sabrosura & Tradición", continuing their trajectory of traditional salsa production under Urueta's leadership.
