Melaza Son & Ensamble is a Venezuelan salsa and Latin jazz sextet formed in Caracas in 2008. Founded by conguero, percussionist, and songwriter Román Requena, the group built its early reputation performing live at "El Maní Es Así," a prominent music venue in the Venezuelan capital. The ensemble is characterized by its use of the vibraphone, aligning its sound with classic sextets such as those of Joe Cuba, Grupo Mango, Seis Del Solar, and Son Boricua.
The group, which was discovered by DJ Stefano Zalin, released its debut album, "Cadencia y Sabor," showcasing their blend of son and vibraphone-led Latin jazz. Their discography also includes singles such as "Un Maravilloso Don," "El Tumbador," and "Besos del Ayer," alongside tribute recordings like "Tributo a Joe Cuba" and "Popurri Ismael Rivera."
