Cuban singer and trumpet player José "Pepito" Gómez was born in 1971 in Florida, a small town in the Camagüey province of Cuba. He began his career playing with local bands and studied trumpet at the Escuela de Superación de Profesionales. He gained widespread recognition in Cuba as a lead vocalist for César "Pupy" Pedroso's band, Los Que Son Son.
Gómez later relocated to New York City, where he has been based for over a decade. He is highly recognized as the lead vocalist of the mambo big band Orquesta Akokán, with whom he has recorded two albums. His vocal work spans across genres including timba, son cubano, and salsa.
As a solo artist, Gómez has been active in releasing music since at least 2010, starting with the single "Esta Noche". His discography includes the 2021 album "Palo de Yaya" as well as singles such as "Ella Se Lo Llevo" (2017), "La Bebesita" (2023), "Amor de Película" (2024), and "Como Esta Mi Son ?" (2025).
