The California Salsa Swing Band, also known as Wally's CSSB, is a California-based musical ensemble led by percussionist, composer, arranger, and bandleader Wally El Timbalero. Heavily inspired by the legacy of legendary bandleader Tito Puente, the group blends classic salsa with elements of Latin jazz and cha-cha-cha.
Representing a diverse, multinational group of musicians, the ensemble integrates performers from the United States, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Venezuela, and Peru. Notable members who have recorded and performed with the band include trombonist Jamie Dubberly, bassist Gilbert Roman, trumpeter Bill Ortega Jr., and pianist Stephen Michael Pocus.
Among the group's projects is "Reincarnation," a musical tribute dedicated to Tito Puente. The band's discography also includes their self-titled album, "California Salsa Swing Band," which was released in 2025.
