Tarquim is the artistic project of Spanish saxophonist, flautist, composer, and producer Pau Vidal. Also known as a member of The Gramophone All Stars Big Band, Vidal launched the Tarquim project to explore Latin jazz, son cubano, timba, and Afro-Cuban rhythms. The project released its debut album, "Mar endins", in 2016.
In 2020, Tarquim released the album "A Cuba" through Say It Loud Records, preceded by the singles "Descarga Tarquim" and "Son para los Muertos". The album delved into traditional Cuban music styles such as descarga, danzon, cha-cha-cha, guaguanco, and bolero. Vidal continued releasing music with a series of singles, including "Me despido de ti" in 2021, the guaracha-influenced "Pa la calle" in 2022, "Nos Fuimos" and "Esta Navidad" in 2023, and "Perdón" in 2024.
The project's next major work, "Tarquim y los Metales Preciosos", was released as an album in 2025 alongside the single "Tiempo al Tiempo". Recorded over a span of three years, the album features a live salsa and Cuban music orchestra, arranging classic Cuban big band sounds alongside modern jazz and African American music influences.
