Bio Ritmo is an American salsa band based in Richmond, Virginia, formed in 1991. The group was founded when artist and educator Jorge Negron gathered friends from Virginia Commonwealth University's School of the Arts to provide live percussion for an IMAX film. The 10-piece ensemble, led by keyboardist Marlysse Simmons, is recognized as a pioneer of the indie-salsa revival. Their name is a Spanglish wordplay on the term biorhythm. Rooted in classic 1970s salsa dura, their music is influenced by traditional Afro-Cuban and Puerto Rican sounds and artists such as Marvin Santiago, Bobby Valentine, and Roberto Roena.
The group's discography spans several decades and incorporates mambo, latin jazz, and timba alongside classic salsa. Early releases include the 1996 album ¡Que Siga La Música! and the single Piragüero, followed by the 2006 single Salsa System (EP). They continued to expand their catalog with the albums Bionico in 2008, La Verdad in 2011, and Puerta del Sur in 2014.
Following the release of the compilation Oriza in 2016, Bio Ritmo continued writing and performing, maintaining their presence in the Latin music scene. In 2025, the group released the single Largos Caminos.
