Formed in 2011 in Brooklyn, New York, Los Hacheros is a Latin music ensemble specializing in classic salsa, son cubano, timba, cha-cha-chá, mambo, and Latin jazz. Bringing a traditional New York Puerto Rican salsa style to modern audiences, the band utilizes instrumentation that includes big horns and charanga elements. The group is fronted by vocalist and conguero Héctor "Papote" Jiménez.
The band debuted with the album "Pilon" in 2012. Their sophomore studio album, "Bambulaye", was released on February 26, 2016, through Chulo Records and Daptone Records. To capture the warm, natural sound characteristic of golden-era Latin music, "Bambulaye" was recorded live to vintage analog tape. The group further demonstrated their live performance style with an appearance on NPR Music's Tiny Desk Concert series.
Los Hacheros continued their recording career with the 2018 single "En la Calle". In 2023, they issued the singles "Tiburon" and "Baila Con Los Hacheros", followed in 2026 by "Juanito" and "La Batata".
