Descarga Boricua is an all-star Puerto Rican salsa orchestra formed in 1993 under the leadership of composer and arranger Frank Ferrer. The group is known for integrating traditional salsa rhythms with contemporary influences, utilizing a powerful mix of brass, woodwinds, and percussion. Their repertoire spans a variety of genres, including salsa, latin jazz, timba, mambo, and tropical music.
The ensemble recorded their self-titled debut album in the summer of 1993. They followed this in 1995 with the release of "Descarga Boricua II/Abratze", which was recorded in New York City. In 1998, the group returned with the album "Somos Uno".
In 2008, the double-CD collections "¡Ésta sà va!" and "Salseando" were released. Their album "Abrázate" was subsequently issued in 2009.
