Eladio Antonio Vega Ayala, known professionally as Tony Vega, is a Puerto Rican salsa singer and percussionist born on July 13, 1957, in Salinas, Puerto Rico. He began his musical career in the 1970s, playing the congas for Latin rock groups in New York before shifting his focus to salsa. From 1971 to 1973, Vega performed as a conga player and chorus vocalist for the group Orquesta La Preferida.
Vega subsequently developed a career as a solo artist and bandleader, becoming recognized as a prominent figure in the salsa romántica style. Over a recording career spanning active releases from 1990 to the present, he has maintained a steady output of tropical music. Outside of his touring and recording schedule, he eventually relocated to Seale, Alabama.
In the 2020s, Vega has remained active with multiple studio and live releases. His recent catalog includes the 2022 album "Feliz Navidad Con la Salsa de Tony Vega" and the 2024 live album "Intimo 2 (Live)", alongside singles such as "Mi Luna" (2021), "Melancólica la noche" (2022), and "Dime y Dile" (2024).
