Tipica Novel, also known as Orquesta Tipica Novel, is a charanga and salsa group originally formed in New York City in May 1961 by Hector Zeno and Eddy Rodriguez. As a classic Cuban-style charanga band, its sound is dominated by the rhythmic interplay of flute and violins. When the founding members departed, leadership of the orchestra was assumed by pianist and musical director Willie Ellis, along with vocalists Alberto Gonzalez and Marco Motroni.
Throughout its history, the band achieved global recognition and recorded under the Fania Records label. The group featured numerous prominent Latin music instrumentalists and vocalists over the decades, including Eddie Drennon, Felo Barrio, Jimmy Bosch, Nicky Marrero, Nestor Torres, and George Maysonet. The group's repertoire spans salsa, son cubano, and bolero.
Tipica Novel continued to record into the 21st century. Their catalog features the albums 'Mejor Que Nunca' (2005), 'Mirando Pa'l Cielo' (2013), and 'Tipicante' (2014), alongside the compilation 'Lo Mejor de Tipica Novel'.
