Manolo Mairena is a Costa Rican singer, songwriter, percussionist, and producer based in Boston, Massachusetts. Born in Costa Rica, he immigrated to the United States at the age of sixteen and settled in Worcester, Massachusetts. He began his musical career at age 21 as a percussionist, performing traditional Puerto Rican music with musician Miguel Almestica before becoming a collaborator for various Latin bands across the Boston area.
Mairena performs a mix of salsa, timba, and son cubano, frequently leading his own orchestra, La Pura Vida. He launched his solo recording career with the album "Mi Oportunidad" in 2008, followed by the album "De Todo Un Poco" in 2018. Over the next several years, he released numerous singles, including "Montuno Pa' un Venenoso" in 2018, as well as "La Rumba del Aburrido" and "Se Busca una Sandunguerita" in 2021.
In 2023, Mairena released his album "Esto Es Lo Que Hay." He continued his output with a string of singles, including "Lo Que Traigo Es Pilon" and dual salsa and bolero versions of "Cautiverio" in 2022, followed by "Tú Lo SabÃas" and "Pa Loiza" in 2025. His album "Sin Miedo" was released in 2026.
