
Virgen Milagros Orta Rodríguez, known professionally as Choco Orta, is a Puerto Rican singer, percussionist, actress, and dancer. Born on November 28, 1959, in the Santurce district of San Juan, Puerto Rico, she is widely recognized in Latin, tropical, and salsa music. Over her career, she has performed internationally across North America, Latin America, Europe, and Africa, earning the moniker "La Reina Del Sabor."
Orta has made significant contributions to the salsa genre as both a vocalist and a percussionist. She achieved a landmark milestone by becoming the first female salsa artist to be honored with a bust in San Juan's Plaza de los Salseros, recognizing her position as a trailblazer for women in Latin music. In addition to her solo music career, she has worked as an actress and producer, and has collaborated with groups such as Los Hispanos.
Active in recorded music since 1997, Orta has maintained a steady output of salsa releases. Her catalog features numerous singles, including "Las Caras Lindas" (2022), "De Repente" (2023), "Tan Fácil" (2024), "Hoy Como Ayer" (2025), and "Ahí Ná Má" (2026).
