Kadencia is an Afro-Puerto Rican music ensemble dedicated to playing, promoting, and preserving Puerto Rican folk music, specializing in bomba, plena, and salsa. Originally founded in Puerto Rico by singer-songwriter Maurice Sanabria-Ortiz and percussionist Roberto Candelario, the band was later re-established in Richmond, Virginia, in 2018. Led by the father-son duo of Maurice Sanabria-Ortiz and percussionist Maurice "Tito" Sanabria, along with percussionist Santos Ramirez, the 10-piece orchestra consists of experienced musicians who have performed widely across Puerto Rico and the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States.
The band's recording history includes the 2009 album, La voz del barrio. Following their transition to Virginia, they released successive singles including "Al Mal Tiempo, Buena Cara" in 2019 and "No Me Quite El Tambor" in 2020, leading up to their 2022 album, En Otro Barrio. Their recent catalog highlights live performance recordings, including "Fogonero (Live)" and "Ya Se Formó (En Vivo)" in 2024, followed by "Bagazo (Live)" and "No Llores Más (En Vivo)" in 2025.
