Orángel Melao is a Venezuelan salsa singer, bassist, producer, and sound engineer from Maracaibo, Zulia. He first discovered music at the age of six under the guidance of his father, José Orángel Paz Castillo, a university professor and composer of Venezuelan gaitas. Melao later pursued formal musical training, studying harmony and jazz with master musician Gerry Weil and attending the Aula de Jazz.
At age fourteen, Melao began performing on the bass in tropical and salsa groups. In 1992, he formed the band La Tecno Orquesta with his siblings, Ernesto and Layla Paz, performing across the Maracaibo area for about eight years. Alongside his performing career, Melao established himself as a producer and sound engineer, eventually launching a solo career with his initial promotional single "Si estás enamorada."
As a solo artist, Melao's catalog spans albums such as "Rumbero Y Caribe" and the live recording "Maracaibo Baila Salsa (Live)." His recent solo discography includes active releases between 2020 and 2025, including the singles "Otra Vez Diciembre" (2020), "Tributo a La Dimensión Latina" (2021), "Dejame Ve Pa' Ve" (2023), and "Buscando tus besos" (2025).
