Somaly Zapata Santana, known professionally as Somaly, is a tropical music singer born on July 24, 1988, in Baní, Dominican Republic. Raised with a strong inclination toward music, she participated in school and church choirs during her youth and performed at various local social events. She composed her first song at the age of 13 as a Mother's Day gift for her grandmother.
She began developing a more formal career in tropical music around 2012, aiming to establish herself within the genre. That year, she released several debut singles, including "Regalame", "Para Alguien Como Tu", and "Cuando Se Apague el Sol". Her recording career in the salsa genre continued with the release of "Verdad Que Duele?" in 2016 and "Grito el Silencio" in 2019.
Somaly has maintained her output into the mid-2020s, releasing the singles "Hoy el Amor Se Va" in 2024 and "Mi Vida" in 2025. While primarily known for her efforts in salsa and other tropical rhythms, she has also expanded her repertoire to record in other formats, including the ballad "Espera".
