Herman Olivera is a salsa singer born on January 30, 1959, in Newark, New Jersey. Born to Puerto Rican parents, he began his professional music career in New York City. He earned a reputation as a sonero due to his skill in lyric extemporization, eventually receiving the nickname "El Sonero del Siglo XXI."
Throughout his career, Olivera has toured globally and performed as a featured vocalist with groups such as the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band and the Lincoln Center Afro-Latin Jazz Band. He was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Salsa Album at the 45th Annual Grammy Awards for "Un Gran DÃa En El Barrio."
Olivera's recorded catalog spans salsa and Latin jazz. In 2010, he released multiple projects, including "Cantando," "No Me Hecha La Culpa," "Salsero Del Mundo," "Presentan," and "Live At Lincoln Center & The Nuyorican Cafe." His subsequent releases include "Boricua Hasta La Muerte" in 2013, "La Voz del Caribe, Hecho en Venezuela" in 2014, and "Recuerda Que Te Quiero" in 2020. His recent work features the 2021 single "Gracia Divina" and the 2023 album "La Voz Del Caribe."
