Alex Torres Y Su Orquesta is a 12-piece Latin music group formed in October 1980 in Amsterdam, New York. Led by Bronx-born bassist Alex Torres, the orchestra was heavily influenced by prominent figures in Latin music such as Machito, Eddie Palmieri, and Tito Puente. The band specializes in a diverse Afro-Caribbean repertoire that includes salsa, merengue, cha-cha, bomba, plena, and Latin jazz.
Over its history, the orchestra has engaged in numerous media and international projects. They wrote and performed the theme music for the PBS weekly program Made in New York and were featured in television commercials for the Albany Times Union newspaper. In 2015, the group completed a nine-day tour in Shanghai, China, following their SOY Salsa concert performance.
The group's recorded catalog includes the 2014 album Mojo and the 2022 album Son 40. In more recent years, they have released several singles, including El Cumbanchero and El Puerquito in 2024, followed by the 2025 single A Nivel De Grandes Ligas, a baseball-themed track that bridges traditional Puerto Rican rhythms and salsa.
