Edgardo Cambón is a Uruguayan-born percussionist, vocalist, and bandleader born in 1960 in Montevideo, Uruguay. He began his professional music career at the age of nine, singing tangos on public television. After early experiences playing guitar, he shifted his focus to percussion and vocals, eventually performing and touring across South America, Europe, and Africa.
In 1986, Cambón established himself in the San Francisco Bay Area and founded the nine-piece salsa and Latin jazz ensemble Edgardo & Candela (also known as Candela). Operating as the band's lead singer and conga drummer, he helped develop the group into a long-standing fixture in the Northern California Latin music scene.
In his recorded work, Cambón incorporates genres such as timba and candombe. His catalog features several major releases, including the 2020 single "Rey Sin Corona", "Amores Como Este" in 2023, and the 2024 singles "Yo Vivo Aqui" and "Rueda Con Ritmo". In 2025, he released the album "FOR EXPORT".
