La Orquesta Morel Campos is a New York-based salsa ensemble under the direction of saxophonist Dean Morel Campos. The bandleader is the great-grandson of the celebrated Puerto Rican danzón and danza composer Juan Morel Campos of Ponce. Built on this classical and popular Puerto Rican musical lineage, the orchestra specializes in "salsa gorda," boleros, and traditional danzas, utilizing the baritone saxophone played by Dean Morel as a key element of their sound.
La Orquesta Morel Campos released their debut album, "Para Siempre," in 2018. The eight-track album featured original compositions by Dean Morel, such as "Mi Único Tesoro" (featuring vocalist Peter Pagán) and "La Soledad." The band followed this release with a series of singles in 2020, including "Quiero Que Sepas Tu," "A'finque Pa'l Bailador," and "Ponte la Mascarita," aimed directly at the salsa dance community.
In 2023, they released the single "Soy Hijo de Borinquen," which preceded their 2024 album, "Yo Soy Hijo de Borinquen the Legacy." The 2024 production features special collaborations, including sonero Josean Rivera on the track "La Sangre Rumbera," continuing the group's dedication to traditional, dancer-friendly salsa rhythms.
