Maite Hontelé is a Dutch trumpeter and bandleader specializing in Latin music genres such as salsa, son cubano, timba, and latin jazz. Born in Utrecht, Netherlands, she is the granddaughter of André Hontelé, a musician, composer, and music education author. She developed an interest in Latin music through her family's record collection and went on to study at the conservatory in Rotterdam, focusing on jazz, salsa, flamenco, and Brazilian music. During her early career, she was invited to perform on a European tour with the Buena Vista Social Club.
In 2009, Hontelé relocated to Medellín, Colombia, where she established her Latin band and began touring internationally. Her catalog of recordings includes the 2018 album 'Cuba Linda' as well as the 2024 collaborative album 'Maite Hontelé's NJJO Goes Mambo (Big Band)' and its accompanying big band singles 'Nochecita', 'Mambo Gumbo', and 'Para Bailar'.
Her work has continued with several 2025 releases, including the studio album 'Havana' and the singles 'Tributo', 'Johanna', and 'Lo Que Tienes Tú'.
