José Ángel López Martínez, known professionally as Jay Wheeler, is a Puerto Rican singer and songwriter born on April 25, 1994, in Salinas, Puerto Rico. He first gained widespread attention in 2016 after a video of him singing went viral on social media. This viral exposure led him to pursue a professional music career, primarily focusing on reggaeton and Latin trap.
In 2018, Wheeler signed with Dynamic Records. His debut studio album, Platónico, was released the following year in 2019 and was executive produced by DJ Nelson. Wheeler collaborated with DJ Nelson again for his sophomore album, Platónicos, in 2020. The album featured the hit single "La Curiosidad," featuring Myke Towers, which peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart.
From 2018 to 2025, Wheeler has remained actively productive within the reggaeton genre. His recent discography includes the 2025 album GIRASOLES, alongside a succession of singles released in the same year, such as "Ya Ni Se," "Si Te Vas," "La X," and "Préstame (Remix)."
